One Bite at a Time
It is said that the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. It would be a seemingly impossible task if that was your challenge. Most people would likely not give it any consideration at all on account of the magnitude of the task.
When Jesus gave the great commission in Matthew 28:19-20, He said: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
The great commission is not an option. It certainly applies to us today, and it needs to be taken seriously. With the population of the earth approaching seven billion souls, our task appears to be insurmountable; however, when we think of it as one soul at a time, it starts to become conceivable. The majority of these souls in the world are lost according to the Scriptures. When we believe we can change the world with the gospel one soul at a time, we will begin participating in the mission of Christ.
One of the most touching things in Tanzania is the willingness of the people to accept the truth of the gospel. The opportunity to teach people of various religious backgrounds is a daily reality.
All in all, have we made a difference in the Kingdom of God? There are souls that surround us every day. It must be our passion to share Jesus with as many as possible before it’s too late.
I’m reminded of a story about a little girl who was walking along the beach. She noticed thousands of starfish washed ashore. She began throwing them back into the ocean and saving as many as she could. A man walked up to her and said: “You will never make a difference, there are too many to throw back.” She looked at the man, bent down, picked up a starfish and threw it back into the ocean. She then looked at the man and said: “It made a difference for that one didn’t it?”
Our task is big, but one soul at a time isn’t so hard after all. With a little determination, we can help change the world. Contact us if you would like to be a part of this work.
